Mother's Day Out

Mother's Day Out is for children ages 6-23 months (those children who will not turn 2 years old until after September 1st).  Class options are Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thurs.  Children may also attend both MWF and TTh.  In this case we will ensure your child is placed in the same classroom for both schedules with a teacher who is working M-F.

Children in the Mother's Day Out program will be introduced to the following skills:  verbal and language, gross and fine motor, and socialization.  These skills will be developed through interaction with teachers and other children.  The teacher will provide a warm, loving environment in which each child may play, explore, and develop independence, while being introduced to developmentally appropriate math, science and language arts activities.  The teachers will also help in the transition from home to school.  A daily note will be sent home with a record of the child's mood, diapering, and classroom activities.

MOTHER'S DAY OUT CLASSES FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

6-11 months - September 1, 2016 - February 28, 2017*
There are 6 babies per class with 2 co-teachers.  A child under 6 months old on September 1st may start in the class during the school year once they reach 6 months of age, provided there is space available.  A parent who is offered a spot for their child before the child is 6 months old may choose to pay to hold the spot until their child is of age to enter the program or may choose to pass on the spot and remain on the wait list.

The teachers in our infant class provide a safe, secure environment which encourages curiosity and exploration.  Our 6-11 month class has a flexible schedule to allow each child to make a smooth transition between home and school.  Daily curriculum includes music, sensory and art activities, outside time on our infant playground and rides in the bye-bye buggy.  Children enrolled in our 6-11 month class will nap during the school day.  The class will begin with an individualized schedule for your child and will transition to a group schedule during the spring semester.

12-17 months - March 1, 2016 - August 31, 2016*
There are 8 children in each classroom with 2 co-teachers.

The teachers of our 12-17 month class provide a warm, loving environment to help children and their parents in the transition from home to school.  Our 12-17 month class follows a group schedule, which includes a nap after lunch.  Daily curriculum includes music, books, fine and gross motor activities, sensory and art.  The 12-17 month class will use the infant playground and take the children on buggy rides.  Children in our 12-17 month class should bring a morning snack, sippy cup and a lunch of finger foods.

18-23 months - September 1, 2015 - February 29, 2016
There are 8 children in each classroom with 2 co-teachers.

The teachers in our 18-23 month class provide a wide variety of hands-on activities that build fine and gross motor skills.  Sensory and art activities are included in the daily curriculum as well as playground time and one of our Specials Classes, such as Music, Creative Movement and Spanish instruction.  Our 18-23 month class focuses on independence, social and language skills.  Children in our 18-23 month class do not nap during the school day.

*For the 2017-2018 school year, these guidelines will be flexible.  All children under the age of 18 months will be registered into one group.  In August as we are preparing for the school year to start, the children will be divided between two classrooms taking birth dates into consideration.  Whenever possible, we will try to keep classes within a 6-month range in age.

Preschool

Preschool classes are provided for children ages 2 through 5 years.  Several schedules are available, based on the child's age.  All classes meet 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Some extended day options are available for potty trained children until 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Individual and group learning opportunities are provided daily through developmentally appropriate active learning experiences which foster higher thinking and build confidence and self esteem.  The curriculum is rich in literacy and phonetic awareness, process art, science, math and discovery, fine and gross motor activities and social interactions.  Each school day the children participate in either Creative Movement, Spanish instruction or Music classes.  Outdoor play is also scheduled daily.  The teachers provide a weekly note to keep parents informed of classroom activities.

Our 3 year classes and older have implemented Handwriting Without Tears pre-writing and letter recognition curriculum which has been adopted by EISD.  Our degreed teachers incorporate The Creative Curriculum and Developmentally Appropriate Practices when planning their units of study.  Chapel, consisting of a Bible story and singing is offered weekly as well as Story Time with our school librarian.

During independent activity or center time, children choose from the following learning activities:  homeliving (dramatic play and cooking activities), block (building and transportation), book (quiet area for individual use), art (various art mediums/easel), discovery (science), manipulative games (eye-hand coordination & fine motor skills) and music.

Additional activities include on-site special visitors for all age groups and off campus field trips for our oldest students.  Confidence building activities include daily job assignments in the classrooms, Show & Tell, Star of the Week, and opportunities to perform in weekly chapel stories and in musicals.  Children are given tools for conflict resolution, compromise, sharing empathy in homeliving and block centers, circle time, meal time and on the playground.  When parents deliver their child to the classroom, children are encouraged to independently check in and put their items away, and during the day are responsible for their own belongings and cleaning up after themselves.

PRESCHOOL CLASSES FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

2 years - September 1, 2014 - August 31, 2015
Class options are Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thurs.  Children may also attend both MWF and TTh at the M-F tuition rate.  In this case we will ensure your child is placed in the same classroom for both schedules with a teacher who is working M-F.  We will divide our 2 year old classes into younger and older age groups based on the enrollment, so your child is placed with children of similar birthdays.  There are 10 children per classroom with a lead teacher and a teacher's aide.

Children work on building their fine motor skills and learning the appropriate grip for holding writing tools.  We begin to introduce the verbal concepts of Handwriting Without Tears.  Cutting paper, stringing beads, gluing, working puzzles and working with playdough are examples of activities that are age appropriate for 2 year olds.

Children are encouraged to work on new self help skills, such as putting away toys and personal belongings, hand washing, putting on jackets, potty learning and drinking from cups without lids.  Saying "please" and "thank you," sharing toys, conflict resolution, following simple rules, making smooth transitions and making choices are important skills that are encouraged at this age.

Children participate with a variety of manipulative materials.  Counting, shape recognition, color sorting, simple math and science concepts and language development concepts learned through a variety of hands-on, interactive learning activities ensure a love of learning.

Teachers begin to introduce phonetic awareness and environmental print.  There is an abundance of reading and storytelling at this age.

3 years - September 1, 2013 - August 31, 2014

Class options are Mon/Wed/Fri, Tues/Thurs, Mon-Thurs and Mon-Fri.

There are 10-13 children per classroom with a lead teacher and a teacher's aide.

Children focus on name recognition and phonetic awareness through labeling, environmental print, word walls and rhythm and patterning activities.  Children work on building their fine motor skills such as gluing, cutting and drawing, using a variety of mediums.  This is a very important step for children who are learning how to write.

Counting, sorting, math concepts are included in weekly lessons.  Children participate with a variety of manipulative materials that are changed out weekly in the classroom.  Children are exposed to science activities that include experiments, graphing, cooking, cause/effect and estimation.  A variety of reading activities including weekly story time with our school librarian and books available in the classroom in all interest centers.  Children participate in circle time, perform classroom jobs and participate in Chapel, which promote self esteem.  Children begin cooperative play and are given varied opportunities to learn conflict resolution and problem solving through purposeful play.

Pre-K/4 years - September 1, 2012 - August 31, 2013

Class options are Mon/Wed/Fri, Mon-Thurs and Mon-Fri.

There are 14-16 children per classroom with a lead teacher and a teacher's aide.

Classrooms are "print-rich" - lots of environmental print, labeling, word walls, letter recognition, phonetic awareness, name recognition, and letter of the week to prepare children for later school success.  Writing journals are used for the child's "published" drawings and writings, which reflect their creativity and imagination.  The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum promotes effective learning.  Multi-sensory lessons are a proven way to teach pencil grip and letter strokes as children accomplish independent writing.

Science & Math are introduced in group time and independent stations.  They offer children daily opportunities to learn about cause/effect, prediction, hypothesis and estimation through conducting experiments, cooking, science centers, biology and graphing.  Calenders, weather reports, charts, patterns and counting jars make math meaningful for this age.

Kinder Bridge - 5 years on or before September 1, 2017
GIFT YOUR CHILD WITH ANOTHER YEAR OF PREPARATION FOR KINDERGARTEN!

Our Kinder Bridge classes are Monday through Friday.
There are 16 children max per class with a lead degreed teacher and a teacher's aide.

Our Kinder Bridge class is designed for children who have already completed a typical Pre-K program or who are eligible to attend kindergarten.  Children in this class gain enhanced social/emotional skills and academic skills for kindergarten readiness.

Enrolling your child in our Kinder Bridge class is a gift you will never regret.  The program gives your child an extra year to gain independence and build confidence before beginning their elementary education.  More time is spent on proper behavior, respect and learning to be a student.  This nurturing, Christian environment is an ideal transition from preschool to elementary school.

Children who will turn 5 years in the Fall of 2017 may be considered for Kinder Bridge ONLY if space allows and an assessment determines that the class is developmentally appropriate for the child.
